New Book About Practical Nonviolence

Over many decades dedicated followers of ATV started various local, state and regional programs for children, parents, abused people, prisoners, etc. etc.  In December, 2013 Kezia Sproat, founder of Highbank Farm Peace Education Center in Chillicothe,Ohio, published her book BEGINNING NONVIOLENCE.

It contains 58 pages in good size print sprinkled with descriptive charts, helpful lists and motivating quotations.  Chapter titles reflect basics in that section.  All are good but a few of my favorites are:

     Turn Anger to Energy
     Learn Not to Flinch
     Intervene Creatively
     Think Fast, Stay Calm

In the Preface and at the End, About the Authors, Kezia Sproat explains how her path crossed John Looney's and how that intersection inspired her work.  On page X she says, "We can heal the fear-based interactions that lead to violence.  If we know and look for practical alternatives to violence, and honor and celebrate them in everyday life, we too are likely to understand, as John Looney did, that nonviolence is far more efficient than violence in addressing human problems."

This unique book stresses the importance of a chart written by John Looney, "Differences Between Violence and Nonviolence".  Push Session One of this website to hear the chart read by Maureen Farris and Jerimiah Currier.  Also follow
along with the slide show of that same chart about midway into Session One.
